Harvest Festival Cake (or ghostbusters and the ymca)

Natalie and I made a cake for the Harvest Festival potluck today. On a tight time budget, eep!

Anxiously pressed by my deadline, I was only concerned about *squee* my homemade colored fondant leaves... it wasn't until I had most of them on the cake that I realized that I hadn't really even considered a design. Oops. So I just left 'em where they were. I also didn't have time to photograph well. I literally cleared off the coasters off the table, threw the cake down, snapped a few and ran out the door. So um, don't mind the dust on the table....

The cake on the way to it's ultimate demise on the potluck table. Thankfully (and to my surprise), it arrived safely intact. I don't have any sort of transportation devices.

It ended up being a very mild cake. We had a miscommunication and needed to substitute semi-sweet chocolate for unsweetened. Turns out, that must make a pretty big difference in flavor. Whodathunk? Heh. Fortunately, Natalie's frosting came to the rescue and salvaged it, making it all work out. Guess it really didn't matter, though. It lived a very short life.

First Vanilla Ice Cream

I borrowed a coworker's ice cream maker. It was so rich and tasty!

Chocolate Zucchini Cake

Introducing the "Meh, it's not that great but I'll stand here and eat the whole thing anyway" Cake.

I love baking with zuchini, but this particular recipe was actually much better at this stage when it was orangey vanillay sugar butter with zucchini on the side. The giant zucchini was from a coworker's garden.

The cake just had too many flavors. These were slices from the reject loaf.

And, on the less serious side because I know they want this posted for everyone to see...

Oops! We had one casualty.

1200 more miles, solo

I just want to say !!! about Photoshop CS3's image merge. It took no effort at all and voila. This is a good thing since I took many panorama type shots on my way back through Arizona from Utah. It lost a lot of the depth I was hoping to catch, but it still looks pretty neat.

Last night I went to the store to buy bananas, but they were all out. I went to another store and they were all out as well. I even asked. Apparently I wasn't meant to have a banana today.

[P.S. Check out where I took this picture. lat=36.6608114688, lon=-111.632937724]
