San Carlos, Mexico to Bisbee, Arizona

Just a few more pictures from our adventures in San Carlos, Mexico.

Walking the beach.

The estuary around back.

Looking back towards the place we stayed with the backdrop of the mountains.

After San Carlos, we visited Bisbee, just north of the border for Bisbee Stair Climb. This is on the hill overlooking the start of the race.

Each year people come from all over to participate in the race that includes nine staircases--totalling over 1,000 steps all together. Serenaded by musicians along the way, runners get a tour through the historic and quirky mining town.

Another event is the Iceman where runners attack a set of stairs carrying a 10 pound block of ice. A friend of mine, a native from Bisbee who has run the race many times, explains the Bisbee 1000 much better than I could pretend to. (Shameless plug, he won!)

The stairs are brutal. I was winded and exhausted just walking up them. These guys cover the 155 stairs in under 30 seconds.

A view of Bisbee from the mountains around it. Mexico is not far in the distance.

Had a lovely picnic and watched the sun set on the Mule mountains.

Enjoyed breakfast at the Breakfast club.

I adore the historic yet lively feel of the old streets and the buildings that line them. Note the Bisbee B on the mountain.

Bisbee just has so much character. Such a neat place to visit.

San Carlos, Mexico

When I left Mallorca it was emotional–I was also closing the chapter on my boat, leaving it behind.

Our boat was docked center right in this picture... too tiny of a dot to even see. I said goodbye to my boat and to the Med at the same time.

I flew back to Phoenix to visit my family and promptly departed on a road trip to San Carlos, Mexico with friends. Here is one of the many roadside shrines along the way that someone snapped a picture of for me.

The iconic peaks of San Carlos towering over the water greeted us.

Wolfed down "big donkey" burritos and tacos at the local taco stand.

Stocked up on grub for the trip. Don't forget the tortillas, they're fresh baked and on sale!

We celebrated birthdays with the mini cakes we found.

And enjoyed the lazy beach life at the Soggy Peso.

And their Pina Coladas.

Wrestled with the hammocks.

...well, some of us anyway.

Filled ourselves with fresh guacamole, chips and salsa.

Walked the beaches and explored the areas.

The resident roof dog at the corner store.

Joined my parents on their sailboat for a day out on the water.

Snorkeled.

And enjoyed a sunset sail.

Flocks of birds heading to wherever it is they go each night passed overhead.

Spent evenings enjoying the beach at sunset. (And awaiting the hurricane that never came.)

Thanks to everyone for letting me steal your pictures. And for taking pictures with me in them. :)

Trunk picnicking on our way back to Arizona.
